Oh Paul

Oh Paul, oh Paul, it’s time to rest,
don’t be the fool upon the hill
who carries on way past his best,
put down the bass, put down the quill,
you should have stopped at sixty-four,
and what's with the hair dye by the door.
You’re not alone of course, that’s true,
bare chested Roger’s guilty too,
and if Dave and Freddie hadn’t gone,
who knows – they might have carried on,
though some I think went far too soon,
like Buddy Holly and Keith Moon.
But yesterday’s done, why can’t you see,
Oh Paul it’s time to let it be.

I like this piece. It made me smile, although I do not entirely agree with your conclusion. I think Paul had a great deal of talent, and although I can't claim to have heard all of his more recent work, I do think many of them are pretty good. I have been listening back to The Beatles, Wings/McCartney, Lennon and Harrison recently on You Tube and they all sound very vital. I was a big fan in my own youth, and I am discovering that I still am! 64 has been well superceded and still going strong forever. (Better than lots of modern 'trash' we often have to put up with these days on the radio!!)
