I Was There

I was there, a proud Centurion,
that time when I stood on parade.
I gave my homage to Caesar,
then I conquered the land unafraid.
I was there with Genghis Khan,
every man of his fearsome horde.
I raped throughout antiquity
as I put my foes to the sword.
I was there with conquistadors
when we captured the brand new world.
I slaughtered across the continent
with glorious banner unfurled.
I was there for Napoleon
with cannonball, fire and thunder.
I charged with musket and bayonet
as I shook the Earth asunder.
I was there for the great world wars,
marching to everyman’s band.
I killed my peers by the million
on behalf of my flag and my land.
I was there for ethnic cleansing,
representing my nation and kin.
I bathed in the blood of innocents,
regardless of moral or sin.
I was there in the new millennium,
in the guise of the good and the bad.
I murdered the mothers and babies
as I died in a holy jihad.
I was there for all of the conflicts
to slaughter, to maim and to fell.
I’ll be all those poor misguided grunts
when we march for the glory of hell.

Hi Mick, It looks as if I am
Hi Mick, It looks as if I am the only one to agree with your opinion. There doesn't seem to be much demand for factual/historical poetry. On. the other hand, I notice, poems based on broken hearts and failed relationships appear to be popular.
Onwards and upwards
Cheers, Luigi.
P.S. I nearly forgot: good poem.
