Perhaps

Perhaps when a youth,
if I’d settled in France,
with a mademoiselle
an occasion to dance.
On a hot August night,
je t’aime, je t’adore
and ooh la lah
with a taste of l’amour.
Maybe by chance
if I’d flown to Berlin,
with a flaxen-haired girl
I’d have lived in sin.
A life in a dream
and a passionate cry
for a gorgeous liebling
in sensuous sigh.
If as a young man
I’d lived in Saigon,
an Oriental Miss
could have shared my song.
I’d worship a vision
with a beautiful face,
so light of movement
and easy of grace.
I wonder if I’d
been south of Djibouti,
would I have fallen
for a dark-eyed beauty?
A longing for love
and a wistful sigh
for a warm embrace
‘neath a blood-red sky.
As time came to pass
I settled in Brum,
never knowing what
fate was likely to come.
But I know the full truth
when I search my soul,
for the love I found
has surpassed them all.

It just goes to show that no matter how far and wide you travel, the girl of your dreams might be living next door. An amusing and enjoyable poem, MIck. Thanks for sharing.
