One Great Scene in Doctor Sleep

The something about Dr. Sleep is one scene but it's a beauty and manages to go full Kubrick. It takes place in the haunted bar room of the abandoned Overlook but I won't spoil only to say that the scene is worth admission to the movie.
As I've mentioned many times, I have a long love/hate histroy with Stephen King. I was at the height of my "love" when I read the Shining. Then I heard it was going to become a film directed by my favorite director at the time, Stanley Kubrick and starring my favorite actor Jack Nicholson. My expectations were as high as they've been for any movie anytime. Favorite author, favorite book, favorite director, favorite actor. What could go wrong?
First of all, I couldn't stand the kid who played Danny. I found him irritating. Shelley Duvall as Wendy was another casting miscue. Jack was good and his "here's Johnny" sequence is rightly famous. Kubrick's direction, however was puzzling and ultimately off putting. Even King thought Stan had missed the vibe. I agreed with Stephen on that opinion.
It's not a bad movie, just a disappointing one.
Dr. Sleep is the second act which this time, I think King screwed up. I guess he didn't want to leave things where they were so he gives us a grown up version of Danny Torrance as portrayed by the likable Ewan. Mike Flanagan takes over as director. He tries, goddamned it, he tries and I appreciate the effort. He's got a great villain in the seductive Rose the Hat played by Rebecca Ferguson but as usual, the whole thing gets chaotic and noisy and ultimately foolish. Yet, there is that one scene which suggests what might have been possible but wasn't realized in the book or the movie
Too bad we have to sit through most of the film to get there.
Like its predecessor, it's not a bad movie...just a disappointing one.
We saw Dr. Sleep at the theater and should have waited for Netflix.

I loved The Shining. I got a Kubrick t-shirt for Christmas. I've listened to the audiobook for Dr. Sleep. It was ok... There is some King I love. The Body. And his straight-ish thriller from a few years ago about the kid who worked at the funfair.
I'll wait for Dr Sleep on Netflix.

I'm really enjoying your film
I'm really enjoying your film pieces btw. The context of you watching them especially, they are warm and kind and say something about you as well as the films.

a disappointing movie
Don't you just hate it? "not a bad movie just a disappointing one". It keeps you interested just just enough not to give it up and stop, and just keeping you almost hopeful. For example “Gravity” was like that only worse. Makes one want to ask your money back. Sadly many paperback novels are deceptive like that.
Keeps you nailed to your seat. Sleep is mercy.
