Final Fudge as Birkdale Becomes a Ghost

Birkdale is described as a village. I went to college in a village so I've always enjoyed the village vibe particularly the Main Street. If It wasn't for Main Street in Birkdale, I might have put up more resistance to moving down South. My first impression of North Carolina was that it didn't appear much different from Rochester. I was expecting much more drama in the landscape.
The best thing about our first visit was the hospitality of our kin who had relocated before us. On the last day of our visit, they took us for a visit to Birkdale and I kinda fell in love.
Birkdale has a Main Street straight out of my dreams. All kinds of shops and even the famous Birkdale Regal. Always music and LIFE going on in Birkdale. Until yesterday that is and even more absolutely today.
I've been through a number of ghost towns in my life but this was the first town I had visited that was an hour away from invisible spirit.
Birkdale was shut down except for my favorite spot in Birkdale, Kilwin's Ice Cream Shop and Kilwin's was 9n its last hour of operation until ?.
Have you ever noticed how everyone in an ice cream shop seems so healthy and clean and clear eyes dand friendly. Kilwin's is that to the max and even though they were closing down and about to lose one of their most prosperous holidays...Easter.....the whole staff including the owner greeted us with the usual enthusiasm and bon homme.
We got our cones. I got my mint chocolate chip in a medium waffle cone. Lynn got a small toasted chocolate coconut. Needless to say they were delicious.
I noticed a sign that said "Buy one slice of fudge. get one free."
Naturally we bought one...double chocolate and got a free dark chocolate.
I noticed some fudge caramel apples behind the counter also BOGO. I enquired about them and the server said that since we were the lasrt customers we could have two for free.
We grabbed our free caramels and wished everybody good luck. They thaanked us for our support. We assured them that we would be back ASAP.
Lynn paid for the sweet delights and we headed for our car.
Once we got to the car, we discovered that the owner had inadvertently charged us for both fudges, surely out of habit.
Old habits die hard.
We decided that they could have charged us twice as much and everything would have still been good.
We went home where we're gonna be for awhile until we return to Birkdale.

I agree with you, it's so
I agree with you, it's so important to record these moments...the good and the bad, so that in the future we can look back.
You must have a go at making your own ice cream, it's not the same, but I still bet you will enjoy.
Jenny.
