Is there a more resplendent cadaver
Than the magnolia transpired on the vine?
Still sprouting fading plumage
In the easy Ellington elegance
Of pod busting early blooming June
Even in the haunted air of Corona swoon.
Its blossom beat the odds
Inspiring neighbor pods
To have their day in wind and sway
To kiss the air with the fragrance of hope
The promise of renewal
The reminder of impermanence
And the courage of lingering.
