Unbidden Memories of Disgrace
By ice rivers
- 758 reads
Here they come, uninvited
Wounded, splattered, slighted
stumbling out of their shallow graves,
awakened again by the thirst
for hearts and brains
spreading sorrow and shame
while howling my name.
Impossible to stop
Painful mistakes
Inevitable in their mission
Staggering heartaches
The enemies of hope
The scoundrels of wishing
Armed with undeniability
Opening old wounds
Devouring the pain.
Again I am unprepared
I am shaken
Stirred and scared
As they come alive
In slomo overdrive.
I reach for my wolfbane
My remedy for pain
I call them by their name
"welcome lessons
remind me again
of blunders overcome
passions misplaced
honor disgraced"
I recognize you
I grant you space
You've left your phlegm
On my ancient face
Yet I have learned
To forgive you
And forgive myself.
To love you
To thank you
And to send you back
with part of my heart
and part of my mind
that I need no more.
