Bangers at Galway Hooker

I was leaving my doctor's office and feeling pretty good. My blood test numbers were safely in bounds. The only concern was about my heart, some test had detected the beginnings of an aneurism near my aorta.
Then I heard a groan in the distance. I didn't check it out. If a person is gonna groan probably the best place for the groan to escape is in the doctor's office. I couldn't help wondering about my next groan and hoping that it would never come. Not today, anyways.
Lynn met me in the waiting room. We had plans for the afternoon. We didn't schedule any groaning. I decided to wait a little until I told her about the aorta bulletin.
We were going out for dinner, something that we have rarely done in the past seven months. We have dinner every night of course, it's the going out part that has disintegrated.
I'm a very lucky man. I enjoy my quarantine. I love my house. My wife is a fascinatrix who keeps me guessing and invigorates every discussion. A couple of nights ago we had a discussion about who knew more about John Agar which led to several hours of hilarious pillow talk before we fell asleep. We've never gotten along better. I have come to the understanding that all men make mistakes and that married men find out about their mistakes sooner than single men I learn new lessons every day.. We are no longer feeling like refugees from the North. We are becoming assimilated. We have established our own schedule and I love it.
Love, love, love.
It's the time of the season.
It's the time of our lives.
We got here some how and we're enjoying it today and looking forward to tomorrow.
We even have a favorite bar. It's an Irish pub called Galway Hooker. It has the "coldest beer in Lake Normand". Not only is the beer cold, it's inexpensive. Pabst Blue Ribbon drafts are only two bucks a glass. We even have favorites on the menu. I order bangers and mash with a side of rice. Lynn gets Philly cheese steak. We sit outside on a rickety table that needs to be propped up with coasters, which our masked server promptly props. The beer comes immediately. The food arrives while we still have unfinished PBR in our mugs. I take a picture of my plate.
It's a bright blue October day The temperature is 74 degrees. The humidity is low. The beer IS cold. We order seconds as we finish off our meals. I'm 73 years old. I'm in love with my wife. I'm convinced by her deeds that she loves me. We own our Cadillac. We live within our means. Tomorrow promises to be even better than today. We earned it, God bless us.
So there we were counting our blessings and aware that we were keeping track and grateful. Lynn left to use the rest room. I sat by myself just listening to the sounds of the street, the city, the state. That's when I heard it...a massive global groan in the distance. The groan lasted for only a moment but it served a sober reminder of the suffering that surrounded us, the contamination that was again rearing its head and striking even as we prepared to get in our car and escape once again into our cocoon, our fortress of solitude and turn on the teevee.

I found this piece so
I found this piece so uplifting. The main reason is the newness you and your wife are able to find each day. Since I stopped being 'Mr Right' and listened to my wife life has gotten so much richer and no money needed. I am so fortunate to be recently retired and falling in love again with the same woman. Yet I too occasionally pause and feel that pain.
