Toy Boat

Is a bet a question?
My father was always challenging me with bets, usually to get me to work harder or to work at all.
I always fell for it.
The bets were usually acheivable so I won enough to continue to take the bait.
One day he offered this one; "I bet you a dime that you can't say '' toy boat' ten times in a row in less than 10 seconds.
I accepted the bet. I said I could do it in five.
He took out his stop watch. We counted down. 3....2....1.....go.
Toy boat
Toy boyt
He hit me with Beaulah the buzzer which meant, I had lost.
He knew I wouldn't be able to do it so he changed the bet.
If you can do it, I'll give you a quarter.
A quarter was some serious change back in the day. It was worth 5 packs of baseball cards at Dee's deli.
Once again, the clock watch and the count down.
3....2...1....go
Toy Boat
Toy Boat
Toe Boat
Tie Bite
Beulah
He gave me a dime anyways.
I went to Dee's deli to buy some cards with my buddy Al. All the way to Dee's I kept trying to say Toy Boat in my mind. Al asked me what I was thinking about. I told him toy boat. Al ,in fact ,had a nifty toy boat that he kept in his plastic wading pool on the asphalt driveway that was his back yard.
"what made you think of that?"
I realized that he and I were talking about two different toy boats. For a moment I thought of his toy boat just to get on the same page.
I told him about the bet with my Dad.
Al said he could do it.
I didn't have a stop watch. I didn't think that I'd need one.
1.....2....3....go
Toy boyt
Beulah.
This contined for awhile until we got to Dee's and bought our cards and forgot about toy boats in hopes of Mickey Mantle or Willie Mays.
Over the course of the next 65 years, I've challeneged many people with 'toy boat'.
Most get hung up after three or four attempts.
I finally went all the way by using this technique. I would spell the word out in my brain and freeze it in there like a billboard. I would read the words on the billlboard one at a time.
let me try it right now
I did it.
I guess you have to believe me.
Maybe I've become more deliberate with age.
The first time I asked Lynn, she rattled off seven strong toy boats before a toe boat.
She thought the whole thing was foolish.
I asked her if anybody had previously asked het to say 'toy boat' ten times and she said "of course not."
I kinda thought everybody had been given that challenge at some time or other in their lives.
I challenged all my kids and now I'm working on my grand kids.
How bout you?
Have you been challenged before?
Can you say 'toy boat' ten times in ten seconds?
How about five?

Nice use of the inspiration point - also I am sitting here with my cousin and we timed each other and we both managed it - go us!

A real tongue twister, I ended up saying; 'tubut,' nothing like toy boat. Oh well! At least I had a go.

Tie boot. Then I thought, if I try saying tie boot, maybe it will come out toy boat. It didn't. Rather disturbingly, I did get 'toy boy' at one point.
Great fun. Thank you for this. (I think!)
