Leicester Libraries Comp

For those of you in Leicestershire, like me, below is info about a competition the libraries are running.

"To support the writing of excellent short fiction Leicester City and Leicestershire County Library services are working together and have launched a county wide contest to find and reward the areas best short story writers.

Writing short stories is one of the best ways for a writer to develop and then showcase their skills. Fewer words does not mean fewer thoughts, and in many cases the discipline required to write a good short story is more than that needed for a good novel.

The best short stories capture the drama and epic scope of a blockbuster novel, others rival the elegance and brevity of poetry and the very best manage both!

Entries are welcomed from people of all backgrounds and levels of experience, from the novice writer who has always dreamt of putting pen to paper - to seasoned veterans with five novels under their belt.

The best entrants will be invited to read their work at an event in July 2005 where the competition winner and runners up will be announced.

1st Prize - £500
2nd Prize - £100
5 runners up will each receive a £10 book token.

Closing date: 4th May 2005

Entries are sought from any resident of Leicester and Leicestershire. Stories must be no more than 5000 words in length and accompanied with a covering letter and SAE.
