Golden Age?

Watching Walter Matthau and Jack Lemon in a film, I was wondering about the stars of today. Are there any that can come up to that level. De Niro? He can do hard nosed stuff, but is embarrassing in comedy. Johnny Depp comes close in The Pirates series, but I can't think of any other actors who come close to Matthau and Lemon.
I also grew up when Tamla Motown and Stax/Atlantic were producing Marvin Gaye, Aretha Franklin and Otis Redding. Oh, and someone called Stevie Wonder. Have I lived in a golden age of film and music?
