You are right about compatibility being hugely complicated. I also notice a tendency these days for obsessive thinking about who is 'right' for you...as though there's someone designed to 'fit' - what does this say about you and your attitude to them as a person? The 'he's/she's so right for me' thing. There's also lots of confusion with the romantic love image and long-term commitment which moves into completely different water. A testimony to potentially enduring love seems to be how much you want to GIVE to the other person and how easily you are able to receive what they give to you, believing that they do it because they love you and it clearly brings mutual happiness to the two of you and those around you. A balance is desirable between the sheer pleasure of the here and now of each other's company and the reassurances of their commitment through unfettered talk about what you might do together in the near and distant future...conversations not charged with fear or grasping but notable for their ease and simple truthfulness.
Oh, good, that last post cured me - I'm on to "Happy Talk" now (smile of relief).

..and the tragic thing is, that Howard feels his only hope of any degree of success in the election, is to attempt to scare the Mail types(most of whom would have voted Tory only) or the people in the shire counties (where the Tories already do well). So all he is doing is hardening the attitudes of his existing core vote and alienating everyone else. This would be fine(electorally) if he was in government with a majority of 160, but he's not and I really can't see the Tories making significant in roads in all but the most marginal of seats.

Sorry but where, exactly, is the connection between that scientifically proven and abundantly obvious natural process, happening as it does, to plants with no choices to make or minds to bend.
And atstrology that can be proven to be inaccurate by its very nature and is based entirely on belief and 'cutting your toes off to get into your shoes'.
If you've been studying it for 20 years then please let me give you some of my birth details and then proceed to tell me, accurately, about myself in a valid and useful way that will not only help me but form some kind of proven method of prediction.
I'm not being aggressive, by the way, towards you. It's just astrology and all those belief systems that are worth billions in today's market and yet, like religion, are actually no more than opinions. It never ceases to astound me how mush all this unsubstantiated crap gets plastered over the egos of the impressionable and yet if it were say a car or a building, it would need to be proven- solid and reliable, before anyone anywhere would give it the time of day.

And a very tactful one! Smiley is a Cancer and thus wouldn't necessarily gel with Librans. I have known a few, both male and female (no, not like THAT) but of course being fiery, I get on with their breeziness.
But really, it all depends on so many other things: moon sign, ascendant, Venus/Mars positions, etc. so it's difficult to say who is actually compatible with whom, by sign.

I'm libran with libra ascending (double libra) - many stars are uncannily accurate, even the ones in the papers.

Of course there are people who like to 'test' astrologers by giving them the wrong birth data, etc., just to 'prove' that it works or not.
The way to look at astrology is like a roadmap of archetypes; while ancient astrology was used by the Babylonians to predict certain events or pick auspicious times for coronations, battles, etc., modern astrology is very much linked to psychology and can be used as such.
People like to bitch about how crap the newspaper astrology columns are and get all het up when someone says a Libra isn't compatible with a Cancer; they are correct in the first instance and incorrect in the second instance, but both are predicated on being far too general in outlook.
_Good_ astrology is based on having an accurate time, place, and date of birth. One might say that, using the roadmap analogy again, the moment we pop screaming from our mothers' wombs, the moment is 'mapped' in the heavens. Sceptics might argue that two people born in the same hospital at the very same moment might have completely different lives, and they would be correct. Astrology is not the only influence: there are genetic, socio-economic, some might say even karmic influences put into play on that screaming blob of humanity. Nothing is truly predestined in life; astrology can never truly 'predict' someone's life, nor predict when they'll die, because most of life is down to free will: you can always change your life, down to your last breath. Astrology can only suggest certain archetypes, predispositions, and internal conflicts that may or may not shape the rest of the lifetime.
I have found, over those twenty years of study, that a good natal (birth) chart is not only spookily accurate, but can also be of great help to people who are going through difficult internal or external changes, but can make no sense of why they are happening.
It's a tool: nothing more.

Some astrologers do specialise in predictive astrology; many get quite good at it. I prefer psychological astrology as I think understanding how one 'ticks' is much more useful in the long run. I am also fascinated by planetary transits; I've been undergoing some very challenging ones for the last ten years or so. What's most interesting is, that even though I understand very well when when a particular transit is 'hitting' one of my natal planets, and also understand what that transit might 'mean', I often only 'see' just what that transit did, after the fact. Like an, "oh, yes, THAT'S what that was!".
