Screen

It's not a big phone, by any means
Which means it fits snug in my hand.
"Like a tiny mirror" I say aloud
Cause its screen is almost always staring back
And its screen is almost always greasy.
I've tried wiping it clean
Just like I used to wear glasses - before they stopped making a difference -
I've tried shaking it when it's slow
And taking off the lid when it overheats.
But up until today,
Never had I tried putting it down
When I felt alone
And the world grows ever hazier
Without my glasses
And the world grows ever too real
Without my phone
Square eyes
Fixed on the rising tide of news,
Pictures and quotes
As I sink further into my armchair
Wishing I had the brass to be standing
On the other side of that screen
