Hamburg

dann mache mich gefasst.
On every doorstep thrusts a tottering, conniving wretch,
fatherless and cold-armed, barcodes carved into their flesh.
I know that it’s to trim a branch and not unearth a root
to lie beneath the cash-stroked fingers of a substitute.
Translation:
I waver, my thick cup almost empty of ersatz coffee,
then gather myself. Here comes the multicoloured journey.
The anchor-tattooed businessman darts into an alley, seagulls
swallow pretzel-crumbs and vomit like seed.
...
The neon light, it reels me in like glowworms on hooks.
I swim with the stream and through the fishlike aroma.
The shops are wide open, their windows sparkle lusciously and
I flop onto the bank gasping heart-robbed for air.

You create a very atmospheric piece, maar
(heel goed Duitse)
