It was the year of 1998 and was Louise was sitting down to a maths lesson. Break time had only just ended but already she had found herself looking at the clock begging for lunchtime to come around quickly.
Halloween was only a fortnight away and already the school was thinking about school plays. What was different about this year though was that the secondary section of the school had decided to do a school play too. They didn't normally but for some reason they decided they would do one that particular year. While Louise was doing her maths work; her year 8 teacher Mrs Hutchinson had seen another teacher Mrs. Spence walk passed the classroom. Mrs Hutchinson flagged her over, both of the teachers started to chat away to each other. Louise had overheard part of their conversation but not much. "Mrs Spence do you have any idea where the costumes and props are kept?" Mrs. Hutchinson asked. "I have no idea" replied Mrs. Spence looking puzzled.
Not long afterwards the schools computer technician walked passed the classroom; "Mr Reid, Mr Reid" Mrs. Hutchinson called out. "Yes Mrs Hutchinson" he replied, "Where do the primary department keep the costumes and props" asked Mrs Hutchinson. "Up in the attic I have a couple of spare keys; but can't get them as I'm on my way to fix another computer" he replied. After she heard Mr. Reid's reply her ears pricked up like that of a bunny rabbits and her head sprung up quickly. Louise mimed to herself, "In the attic I didn't know about this room, I want to see this!"
Mrs Hutchinson then got the key of the primary school department and had it sitting on her desk. She hoped and prayed to God, Jesus, Mary and just about nearly every other saint her grandparents told her about growing up that the teacher would ask her to go up to the attic. Then the big moment came "Louise can you do me a favour and take this key, to the attic and get some of the costumes and props." Mrs Hutchinson asked. That was it, her prayers were answered. Louise wanted to be the first person to get up there and told the teacher she needed no help; when it came to her being asked if she needed anyone else to help her down with the stuff.
When Louise got to the attic she decided to do a bit of exploring. She noticed that she was at the very top floor of the school and that this part of the school was very dark and spooky. On this particular floor there must have had, been at least twelve or maybe even fifteen rooms. Most of these rooms had lots of old boxes and very old computers which were at least twenty years old. What was it all, doing up there if it was Louise or her family it would've been in the dump years ago.
Then she noticed that one of the rooms had a lot of light shining through it. "Ah this must be the room I'm looking for" she said to herself as she started to turn the key. The room was like a time capsule, full of costumes of old school plays that took place many years ago. She got this a warm fuzzy feeling from this room which felt lot warmer than the rest of the attic and the cold weather outside. She lifted one of the hats, a sapphire blue turban and tried it on.
Suddenly something strange was happening and she found herself standing in a very hot desert. "Where the bloody hell am I?" she asked herself in horror. Next thing she knew she saw a man on a white horse riding towards her. "Hello there, my name is Wallace; you must be one of Prince Lucas's friends". He said cheerfully. Wallace had dark hair, dark eyes and was dressed in a white and blue uniform with a sapphire blue turban. "My name's Louise, sorry, who is Prince Lucas? Where am I?" Louise asked. "You are in the Citrine desert and the Citrine city is not that far away; here let me take to the city's tavern, climb on my horse with me and we'll ride back to the city together." Wallace replied.
And that Louise did, not long after they got to the tavern a huge fight broke out and Louise decided to go and hide somewhere. She found a market stall and hid underneath it. She shut her eyes for a few minutes, to think about what was going on. But when she opened them again however; she found herself back in the attic again amongst all of the old costumes. "Christ I'll be back here in a hurry" Louise said to herself whilst getting up of the floor and gathering up some old costumes.
Just before home time the key that was given to Louise earlier in the day was given to Mr Switzer so that extra copies could be made. When Mrs Hutchinson received the keys; Louise's mindset of the attic and of that different world; changed in a flip of a switch and had decided she wanted to go back there again. So then her teacher and classmates weren't looking she stole one of the spares and stuck it into the inside of her shoe.
It was almost 5 months later and Louise hadn't been up to the attic as much as she would've wanted. Not long after she discovered the attic she had been diagnosed with epilepsy and she had taken lots of seizures. However when she was at school she would spend some of her days in that attic.
Over those months Louise had gone to many magical places when trying on the clothes; and would meet many of different people and characters; monsters, pirates, men in armour, and talking animals. She sailed the seas, been to deserts, had tea and sandwiches with talking animals. When she returned to her normal world she would most of the time end up back in the attic. Other times she would fall from the sky, or get stuck in some of the strangest places.
Most of them talked about one thing that was a prince named Lucas. Louise never knew much about Lucas but had heard of him as some thought she knew him. When she asked only brief information was given.
But one day she was about to hear all. On this particular day she had gone to the attic just like normal when she could. The sight of the costumes wasn't new to her. As she looked around she said to herself "Hmmm I wonder what I'll put on today" with her being unsure she stopped to think, as she did, she heard a kind gentle voice behind her that said "hello there."
Louise in shock turned round and shouted in shock "Jesus Christ!" "Who the hell are you?" Looking back at her was a fairy, standing at about 5ft tall. She was dressed in a pink dress, sparkly tiara and had red flowing hair. "I am Maura the pink fairy" she had answered.
"God you scared the crap out of me, is this real?" Louise asked. Maura nodded. "You haven't been up here in a while have you? "But it's ok I understand you need to do your school work and have been unwell and that can be-"she said. "Hold on how do you know all of this?" Louise asked "I have been watching you; you and everyone else in the school". "Particularly you, since you discovered this place" she continued to say. "Ok that's creepy, and how's that possible if nobody sees you and not visible." Louise replied as she screwed up her face slightly.
"We can't be visible when we watch you, if we were it would cause a whole lot of madness" Maura had answered back.
Louise wanted to know more about Prince Lucas and why he went missing. "So what's the story with Prince Lucas?" Louise asked
"Prince Lucas is a young boy who was orphaned as a baby. His parents who were king and queen of the Ruby Isles were murdered by a wicked queen named Sorcha". "By the orders of King Franklin he was raised in their city by a peasant couple". "As the prince got older he worked in the stables." "When he found out about his true heritage he disappeared. Everyone is trying to find him; as he is the one that can stop Sorcha from taking over the world and force Julie to marry her son." "The marriage would potentially give her more power."
"Princess Julie is the daughter of King Franklin and Queen Tabitha they had been friends with Prince Lucas's parents, Sorcha however didn't get on with the princes parents but did get on with Franklin and Tabitha. There were talks of both of the royal houses joining together and co-ruling with each other. This made Sorcha jealous and it was the reason why Lucas's parents were murdered. "Sorcha was a friend of King Franklin and Queen Tabitha too but became enemies with them after she found out the king and queen was hiding the prince, in their city and kingdom".
"She wanted the prince dead too as she thought there would be a chance that he would fall in love and marry Julie." "Plus with him gone it meant that nothing could stand in her way of arranging a marriage for her son to Julie".
Princess Julie and her parents are now locked away in Sorcha's kingdom; in the highest tower and need rescuing!! But he's on the move, there have been claimed sightings of him, but help is needed." Maura stated.
Wow!!! This is a lot to take in!! Sounds like all of you guys need some help. Louise said.
After she told the story of Prince Lucas the bell could be heard ringing "O here goes the bell! Better go back to class, or Mrs Derby will catch you!" Maura said quickly "What-!" Louise replied, Poof! Maura disappeared in a puff of smoke without warning!!
Maura was right she had needed to get back to class and to get out of the attic; get out quick and fast. Mrs Derby was the schools Vice principle, with her razor sharp discipline and a personality to match nothing got passed her quick enough; so it was a mega achievement for Louise to manage to steal a spare key few months previously, stick it in the inside of her shoe and sneak up there undetected.
A few days later had Louise been hanging out with a few mates Emma, Clare and Sarah down at the girls toilets. She had decided not to go to the attic; that particular day and stay away for a while. Throughout the past few days she thought about the mystical places she'd been to, the lost prince, Maura and many of the other people and animals she met.
The bell had gone a few minutes before but her and her friends still hadn't returned to class just as they were about to go up the stairs to class though see heard a familiar voice. Mrs Derby was walking the corridors. "Right girls listen up!" "That Derby woman is on the loose let's gets moving". Louise said, "Where to class?" Her friend Sarah had said.
"No somewhere else I've got something to show all of you upstairs; right at the very top of the stairs". "We aren't allowed up there". Clare had said. "For goodness sake just get up there and I'll explain everything." Louise replied back quickly. All of the girls including Louise ran up the stairs and got there quickly to the very top.
Once there they looked around all of the rooms; looked at Louise in surprise and asked her. "What is this place?" "It's the school attic," Louise answered. "How and when did you find this place?" All of her friends asked.
"Not long before that school play we all did back at Christmas time; I spend quite a bit of time in here. Why don't you put the costumes on, have a bit of fun while you're here" Louise answered while turning the key to the room that held all of the costumes.
"No need" a familiar voice said. Poof!! Maura appeared in the room. "Who are you?" asked Emma "Oh this is Maura, the pink fairy," Louise replied. "Let me take you girls there myself". She waved her delicate magic wand and lone behold we were in a forest with lots of trees, bees and birds. "Welcome to the Peridot forest, come and meet Prince Lucas he's here." Maura beamed
"Hi I'm Prince Lucas" he said in a friendly way. Lucas had very cute looks with short blonde curly hair, piercing blue eyes and he wore red and brown clothes.
"So you're the famous Prince Lucas all of these people are telling me about" Louise asked "Indeed I am, we need to get to Sorcha's castle to save Julie and her parents he replied. "Right ok, what are we waiting for, let's just think of a plan and save the poor cow; so we can go home and not get detention of Mrs. Derby!!" Louise said.
Everyone gasped looked at Louise absolutely horrified! "What!! If he hadn't of been playing hide and seek all this time and everyone told me properly what was going on maybe she'd be saved by now!! We need to think of a plan and fast." Louise shouted in a brutal tone.
What seemed like many hours and days to them; they'd spent planning and travelling to the wicked queen Sorcha's castle. They're army of magical creatures, talking animals and of course Louise and her friends were all ready to fight her and free the princess and her family.
Once there Sorcha who had been looking out over her castle spotted them. The wicked queen, who was wearing all black clothes, had long grey hair and a small golden crown called out to her army of nasty, wicked little creatures. Pointing her long skinny arm with her even skinnier finger outwards she loudly boomed to her army "I know why they're here, kill them all!" The fight went on for hours and hours when they were finally able to get into the castle. Prince Lucas, Louise and her pals went straight up to the tower to free Julie and her parents. Maura then appeared she waved her magic wand and blasted the door open; and then poof she disappeared again. Julie and her parents were finally free. They raced down the tower before Sorcha met them at the very bottom. "Where are you going, you're not going anywhere, she is to marry my son!" Sorcha spat.
"I will never marry your son, I told you this a thousand times; Prince Lucas and his army are here and they will stop you and your wicked plot to be taken place. Julie screamed. Poof! Maura appeared out of nowhere again. She held up her left arm in the air and waved her magic wand with her right hand up and down. There appeared in Maura's left hand was a magic sword "Quick Prince Lucas end it now!!" Maura shouted
"That blooming fairy, why can't she just stay out-." Sorcha shouted feeling very annoyed. Before Sorcha knew it Prince Lucas had stuck the sword into Sorcha's belly and a bloodcurdling howl let out. Sorcha was now dead! The war was now over! "Thank you so much for freeing us everyone; all of us can now go home" Julie and her parents praised. Louise and her mates were surprised and glad that the prince actually didn't take all of the credit; like they do in most fairy tales.
A magic door appeared which opened by itself "Just walk through that door girls and you'll end up back in the attic or home again. "Thank you Maura; we may pay you all a visit again" Louise replied and smiled. Maura gave Louise and her pals a nod.
They all waved goodbye and the girls walked through the door. Within seconds the girls were back in the attic again. When they got back, it was still the same day and time, nothing had changed. "We better get back to class," Louise suggested. And so they did and everyone lived happily ever after!!!

wow - you have managed to
wow - you have managed to cram so much into this story! I like the slightly fruity language of the main character - it adds authenticity.
