THE BEST CHRISTMAS BOOKS EVER - THE FIR TREE
The Fir-Tree is a literary fairy tale by the Danish poet and author Hans Christian Andersen (1805–1875).
The tale is about a little fir tree who is anxious to grow up, so much so that he cannot appreciate living in the moment.
He is called the baby of the forest and he is so diminutive that forest animals can jump over him much to his embarrassment.
But one day in his youth he is cut down and carried into a house where he is decorated on Christmas Eve with glowing candles, coloured apples, toys, and baskets of candy and a gold star on top and he is in heaven.
But his reign as centre piece of Christmas was soon over as the next day he is carried to the loft.
