Tin Girl

Whoa, there’s some things, baby,
I just can’t swallow Mama told me that girls are hollow What’s inside a girl?
The Cramps
Tin Girl
She is hard on the outside, pink plumed stiff quiffed,
tin glazed skin blue and white like delftware -
fragile, sort of, but shock resistant, bomb proof,
or perhaps just shell-shocked – numbed beyond numb.
Big brown puppy dog eyes, but don’t be fooled -
she’s feral, aloof as a cat, frisky and vicious.
Eyeliner painted on thick like black enamel -
a black country Nefertiti, exotic as a faggots and pays.
Dressed like a jilted bride in an antique wedding dress,
tap dancing in the butcher’s shop in silver granny shoes,
or head to toe raven, pan-sticked pale as a vampire.
She tastes of chocolate, apples and bacon sandwiches,
or alcohol, wines and spirits, got a thirst for it at eleven.
But she smells of hairspray, musk oil and metal.
Yes, she smells of the metal she spends all day with.
What’s inside her? She’d tell you she’s hollow, empty.
She hasn’t got a heart and unlike the tin man,
she doesn’t want one.

This feels as 'real' as it is
This feels as 'real' as it is. A really 'authentic' piece. The sort of piece that really shouldn't have inverted commas applied to it. It reminds me of being that age, and the awkwardness and the theatre of it all. 'Black country Nerfetiti' is a great phrase.
I never liked The Cramps. They always made me feel a bit sick. As actually so does this a bit (in a good way).
Thanks for reading. I am grateful for your time.

Any writing that has the word
Any writing that has the word Faggots in it will do for me. Being a Londoner, I'd never heard the phrase "faggots and pays" so had to look it up. Then the line " a black country Nefertiti, exotic as a faggots and pays" made complete sense!
Some fabulous descriptive writing in this, the looks, the smells, the tastes, all work brilliantly.
Best thing i've read in a while. Loved it.
