Hare Stops

The hare stops there,
in the corn-field stubble.
Exclamation ears and eyes
lift to the black and starless skies.
Deep in the darkness,
forged in antiquity,
blown to infinity,
something had glimmered,
shimmered and shone.
With a change of shape
and a kick of its feet,
the hare is gone.

I really liked your brevity,
I really liked your brevity, and the picture you captured – 'Exclamation ears and eyes' and 'With a change of shape and a kick of its feet, the hare is gone' especially.
I was puzzled a bit about blown to infinity – is that another reference to the sudden flit away of the hare? btw there is a typo in the teaser – it still says 'teh cornfield stubble'.

Wonderful images in this
Wonderful images in this lovely poem, Catherine. I could be wrong, but although I love the rhyme factor, I wasn't sure about the seeming tautology of 'glimmered, shimmered and shone'. Others may not agree - see what you think, though.
