As we lay heavy, not touching,
the web of caramel sugar
that laced your lips cracked,
and the breath that brushed my throat-
exposed, unyielding in
your deliberate skill.
Coarse light falls rudely on
goosepimpled flesh,
and the first shiver of tomorrow.
Even though
the flame in your voice
has started to blacken, and burn-
now show me, old love.
This and no more.
