An Aukward Conversation

We usually have some idea when we're in a dangerous, unsettling situation. We try not to reveal our fear as we don't want to further upset anybody with us at such times. We want to project a sense of security no matter how false. We call our communication at such time "whistling in the graveyard" as we fake non-chalance and try to conivnce ourselves that we have nothing to fear.
Once upon a time, on a desolate island in the midst of a vast and unforgiving ocean, there lived two female auks named Ava and Luna. Unbeknownst to each other, they were the last of their kind.
As Ava and Luna perched on a cold, windswept rock, their female whistlling voices whispered through the breeze, their haunting conversation tinged with sorrow and the last embers of withering hope.. They were pissed off at the absent males.
"You know what, Luna? I can't help but feel like those guys straight-up bailed on us. I mean, where the hell did they all go?"
"I'm with you on that, Ava. It's like they vanished into thin air, leaving us here to deal with the consequences. Probably out having a ball, drinking, gambling, smoking and shit while trying to get the hell outta the house."
"Yeah, we were all just hanging, living our lives, pissing each other off and banging when suddenly, they're gone. No warning, no explanation. Just empty nests and a whole lot of bullshit"
"It's infuriating, Ava. We trusted them, we depended on them. And now, as usual, we're left to pick up the pieces they left behind and face the grim reality that we really needed their asses around here."
"That's right girlfriend. We're stuck here, trying to make sense of it all, while they're nowhere to be found. They had a responsibility to us, to ensure our survival, and they just abandoned ship."
"It's a betrayal, Ava, plain and simple. We thought we were in this together, fighting against the odds. But it turns out, they weren't as committed as we thought. We should have known better. Look at the way they treated their mothers."
"Meanwhile," chortled Luna, "we're left here, whistling Dixie, searching for answers that may never come while, they're out there, who knows where, living their lives without a care in the goddamned world.
"Well, you know what, Ava? We may be the last ones standing, but we're stronger than they ever were. We'll face this challenge head-on, even if it means doing it alone."
"Damn right, Luna! We won't let their irresponsibility define us. We'll survive, we'll persevere, and we'll prove that we're capable of carrying on the legacy they left behind.
" We'll show them, Ava. We'll show them that we're not to be underestimated. Our voices will be heard reminding everyone that the auks endure.
"Fuck those guys. They may have bailed on us, but we won't let their immaturity break us. We'll rise above and write a new chapter for our species—one that's marked by strength and resilience.
The next day, Luna didn't return to the perch.
Nor the day or week or month after.
Ava was alone.
She grew silent.

I feel sad for the remaining
I feel sad for the remaining auk. How will she spend her days, all alone?
