Buddy Drops the Mike

The bullshit political correctness regarding bigotry, racism, sexism, homophobia, drinking, smoking and ass grabbing had deprived Buddy (the Bulldog) La Carte of most of his act. Buddy used to be good for 45 solid minutes a night. Currently, he had maybe 15 minutes left of a "routine" and that was shrinking as the previous "losers" were now telling personal "truths" about exclusion, marginalization, allienation and eventual awkward triumph. Once upon a time, comics were the prophets now they had become the preachers.
Bullshit.
Buddy had one gimmick that remained from the old days when the most important rule was always "make sure they want more when you drop the mike".
He closed every "act" like this:
"ya know I've been in this business a long time. When I was first starting out I asked Henny Youngman for some advice about how he had achieved and maintained his success."
(Of course nowadays the recognition applause for Henny Youngman had also diminished. Buddy thought someday soon he needed to come up with somebody current to make the finish more relevant )
"Henny took a long look at me before he replied 'Son there are three rules that you must follow if you want to succeed....if you follow these rules you'll make the big time and thrive when the spotlights hit. If you don't follow these rules, well don't expect spotlights in the shithouse'.
Rule number 1...always be yourself.....don't let anybody else turn you into somebody else.
Rule number 2... Don't ever tell anybody everything you know about anything.
Bam
Mike Drop
Let's hear it for the great Buddy LaCarte.

yeh, but politics is no joke
yeh, but politics is no joke and nothing surprises us now. Jaded appetite. No gross stupidity at a national level.
