One afternoon I woke up
With a Hammer in my hand
I noticed a shortage
of freedom
of justice
and of love
through out the land
so I decided to cut down
the bitter lemon tree
in the backyard next to me.
It took me that afternoon
and another thirty nine
mornings noons and dinner times
to hammer that little tree down
to firewood on the ground.
At the sunset
of the fortieth day
My neighbor came to me
And asked me a question
"Can I axe you a question"
He asked me at magic hour.
"Why you usin' a hammer
To chop down a tree.
Why you not usin' an axe?"
He asked
Or axed
Whatever.
I told him
when a man chops down a tree
looking for liberty
He uses the tools he has
Not the tools he needs.
My neighbor asked
"Then why dint you axe me
If you could use my axe
because ya never know
unless you axe"
So I axed my man
If I could use his axe
After I hammered
My lemon tree down.
My man gave me his axe.
I went into my crib.
I axed a few nails
Into the wall
Then I covered the hole
With my Masters Degree
Diploma.

Oklahoma.
