Eternal Reward

My oldest former students are approaching 70.
My youngest former students are turning 30.
I am in touch with many of them on Facebook.
I am in touch with none of my former teachers and I wish that I were.
Lynn is in touch with none of her former teachers
She wonders why she or anybody else would be.
Here's the deal....all teachers good and bad
Remain in the lives of their students forever.
The butterfly and ripple ripple effect.
When you ask someone to name their favorite subject
They will usually name a teacher to go along with that subject.
The seed is planted, interest activated
The influence is life long.
I learned from my bad teachers
How not to teach. How not to live
I put in practice what I learned from my good teachers
Every time that I make a right decision.
Learning what not to do from the bad
Learning what to do from the good
Even as I type these words.
Last week was Teacher's week
I heard from many of my students.
I treasured every shared memory
As they refreshed the power and the privlege
And the eternal reward of a career in education

As a former elementary school teacher this poem resonated with me. Congrats on the award and the reward. :)
