As we've grown older, we have been forced to confront the sadness of dementia and alzheimers.
Like all mortal matters, debilitation is best confronted with music and humility which leads directly to Glen Campbell.
Yeah. I've been to many concerts and I tend to get hyperbolic about all of them best this, most that etc. Usually they come with an asterisk of sorts. We were fortunate enough to catch one of Glen Campbell's last shows on his good bye tour. Unlike Sinatra and Cher and Streissand and countless others this was for sure Glen's last tour. Everybody was aware of the finality.
He was clearly suffering from the A and made no attempt to conceal it. With the help of his children he stayed on track and played precisely, poignantly and profoundly. Let's go with most profound concert ever and leave it at that. Not only did he perform his hits but also did most of his final album Ghost on the Canvas. If you haven't heard that album yet, get it and listen to it asap. It doesn't get any more personal and haunting..
I don't usually buy tee shirts at concerts but I bought this one.
I have included the front of the tee shirt.
The back says Thank You and Goodbye.
I wear it proudly.
The Wichita Lineman is still on the line and on my mind, gently.
