Gambar never returned.
Meanwhile, hundreds or thousands or millions of years later, a descendant of Paul was trying to relax.
He had been removed from the water so his bi-valve was tightly closed.
Dr. Mikimoto administered a mild anesthetic and the descendant eventually gaped.
"Easy, little fella"
Mikimoto sliced a small incision into the descendant's gonad to make a pocket into which the good doctor inserted a bead nucleus along with a tiny square of nacre producing epithelium which immediately began to coat the nucleus.
Nacre is the mother of all pearls.
This is the secret of wisdom and the difference between natural wisdom and cultured wisdom.
A long and stressful wait will follow.
Three years at the minimum.
The nacre has to be evenly deposited and cared for over the next three years. If the deposit is even, the care gentle and if the descendant is kept out of water for as little time as possible, high quality cultured wisdom will be produced.
Stress must be managed because too much stress on the descendant of Paul will produce poor-quality wisdom.
Poor quality wisdom is not wisdom at all, merely intelligence.
Poor quality intelligence has a catastrophic variety of possible outcomes so stress management of wisdom has become a hot field of scientific as well as theological and political inquiry.
What if the descendant of Paul was human?
Imagine how stressful it would be if a human discvovered a foreign object for which his immune system had to mount a major defense had been artificially and intentionally introduced into his body?
Most of the descendants of Paul, treated in such a manner, die in the process.
Such is the price of wisdom and the consequence of culture.
Until the day that Gambar returns.
