That Lurking Girl

It's getting harder and harder to compliment a woman.
Many women associate a compliment with a pick up line, especially at work so be careful. Remember it's not your intention that matters, it's her interpretation of your intention that counts.
It's not much easier around the house.
Rather than just telling Lynn that she looked great a couple of days ago, Instead off falling into the usual trap of "You look nice today." followed by "Oh, I didn't look nice yesterday." or "yeah right...whaddya want."
I made the mistake of turning nto a question
"Jeezuz Lynn. How do you look so young."
As if she had been waiting to spring this trap for years, she looked straight into my eyes and rattled off the following.
" I exercise. I eat the right foods. I don't smoke. I don't drink beer. I don't gamble. I'm happy with my life and who I am. I don't hold anything in, if something is bothering me I express it. I'm not afraid of my own anger. I love my house. I don't want or seek or need anybody's approval. I don't take drugs. I garden. I work around the house. I'm never bored. I don't waste money on things I don't want. I take care of myself."
EEEyyyoooowww
What started out as a compliment ended up as a reverse inventory on my behaviour and an explanation not why she looked good but rather why I looked like shit.
Remember when the Beatle's sang " She's the kind of girl who puts you down when friends are near ya know she's cruel when you say she's looking good she acts as if it's understood, she cool, coool, cool, crool oh girl.
That girl is lurking within every woman so for God sake be careful what you say, what you say and when you say it.

I am sure most men have
I am sure most men have experienced a bit of this at some time! You have described it well. Are any of us ever good enough?
