Last week, I posted this on Facebook.
"When I was an English teacher, I made sure that EVERYBODY whether they read it or not at least got the plot and context of whatever reading assignment was being studied in the classroom. I didn't want to exclude non-readers from the impact and beauty of literature. Now let me give y'all one more reading assignment; one of the most important assignments of our lives. READ the Mueller report. Make up your own mind...don't take the word of others. I've reached a couple of conclusions so far; 1) Russia definitely interfered in the election and 2) Volume 2 is readable, enjoyable and most certainly doesn't clear Trump of obstruction of justice. Everybody says Let America decide for herself. C'mon America...read the report."
As you might imagine I got a lot of responses. One of the responses came from one of my favorite former students. John used to be a big (and I mean fat) kid who played on the football team mainly because no one could get around him. He just got in the way. He didn't want to hurt anybody. He was a gentle soul who never let on that his weight was bothering him. Everybody liked Big Johnny.
Apparently his weight had bothered him. He sent me a friend request on FB. In his picture he was now a thin man of 40 with a ZZTop beard. I didn't know exactly what to say about his changed appearance so I went with "awesome" which he liked.
It felt real good to reconnect with John.
I didn't hear much from John until last week when we reconnected. He responded to my Mueller FB message. His response helped me to fill in another piece in the puzzle that is two nations, divided under Trump.
This is John's point of view stated near poetically.
