John Doe found himself in a Chinese restaurant called the Rainbow Wok. John sat at a long table along with four of his former in-laws.
Upon first entering the restaurant, John heard what he thought was the sound of a twentieth century European ambulance Wa Wa Wa Wa Wa Wa Wa Wa. By the time he got to his seat he recognized the siren as Somewhere Over the Rainbow "and high above the chimney tops that's where you'll find me.
Brother-in-law Mark spoke first. "It's kinda strange to hear that song in a Chinese restaurant.
Sister-in- law Chris replied to her brother. "Well whaddya expect in a place called the Rainbow Wok?"
"Maybe some Van Morrison?" suggested sister-in-law Darlene.
"Who's getting what?" asked brother-in- law Eric.
Everybody ordered won ton soup and egg rolls.
John Doe had a question for the table. "If you were Dorothy would you stay in Oz or return to Kansas?"
Both Chris and Darlene answered the question with confidence. "There's no place like home" they responded simultaneously.
"Even ET wants to go home." said Mark over a spoonful of soup.
John Doe expounded further. "Well, I know some feminists who say that Dorothy should have stayed in Oz and that the idea that she would return to Kansas is a sterotype for women to stay at home in the kitchen. Men would have stayed in Oz. Plus she had everything she needed in Oz along with all of her friends from Kansas. Furthermore, Oz was in color while Kansas was black and white."
"Dorothy was unconscious during the whole thing, she had been knocked out during the tornado. Oz was happening in her head as she battled to regain consciousness," Eric countered. "Kansas is consciousness"
Then all of the in-laws looked at John Doe and in one voice asked "What would you do, Thornton?Would you come back? Will you come back? The choice is yours. It's not too late but you gotta want it."
When John Doe heard the name "Thornton", he realized the importance of his decision. The Wa Wa Wa Wa Wa Wa Wa sound returned.
John Krell could only reply " see you soon."
