The something in Ready or Not is old school sneakers. Ready or Not is a horror comedy direcetd by Mark Bettinelli and starring Amy Weavering.Although it has it's horrendous moments and a weak ending, it's more of a comedy than a horror flick or who dun it although it resembles Knives Out except it's a bigger farce with less well known actors. It is what it is and what it is, ain't bad.
On her wedding day, a bride is initiated into her new family with a bizarre and ludicrous ritual. From that point on, the movie becomes a chase film with plenty of gory missteps resulting in some hilarious murders. Remember it's a comedy so in spite of the murders there's not a lot of pain for the audience.
The highlight is the pursuit of the bride through the castle and the best part of that chase is the fact that the pursued is smart enough to change her shoes during the frantic, mendacious and deadly game of hide and seek which gives the movie its title.
Yes, she begins in stillettos but God bless her and the director..she changes out of those shoes and slips into a pair of comfortable sneakers and runs the race. Lynn and I always scoff when the heroine starts to escape and leaves on her heels when being tracked down most infamously in the Jurrasic Park sequel but commonly observed in films of all kinds. Just at the moment when Lynn was saying " I hope she gets out of those shoes" she does get out of them which we noticed and appreciated.
Reminds me of the old joke about a bear crashing into a campsite...one of the campers puts on sneaks and his partner wonders why he's bothering to put on the sneaks as by observing "don't bother with that....we can't out run a bear" to which his partner replies "I'm not trying to outrun the bear, I'm trying to out run you."
Ready or Not is a lot of fun. If you haven't seen it, it's a good Netflix choice. We saw it in theater and I don't regret it.
