Threesome Teetime Tomorrow

I've got a tee time for tomorrow for a threesome which means that I'm scheduled to play golf with two other guys.
Guy number one is my brother Deke who hasn't played golf in 10 years.
Guy number 2 is Johnny Crown who, like myself is no longer capable of lifting the ball out of the hole without going on all fours and then using the flag to pull himself up.
Johnny is recovering from heart and cancer issues.
In case by a miracle, the ball actually goes into the hole, my brother Deke is limber enough to just reach down and pull it out.
We're going to play best ball, here's how that works. We all take a tee shot then see choose the best tee shot and take our second shots from that spot. We pick up our inferior shots as if they never happened. We then choose the best second shot and all of us shoot from there. When we finally get it on the green, the shot closest to the green is where we putt from until the ball goes into the hole at which point Deke takes over.
Both Crown and Deke have excellent balance as each can stand on one foot for more than a minute.
If I can make it to thirty seconds, that's a miracle.
Also we're going to play from the gold tees which are much closer to the green than the regulation tees. We earned the gold when we turned 65. Even Jack Nicklaus plays from the gold these days.
These are two of the funniest men that I know so we'll have plenty of laughs and the round will become legendary in our bull sessions.
Crown is the best golfer of the three of us and was once an actual Oak Hill prodigy but the drinking' and the gamblin' and the women got in the way of that dream. The last time we played a round of golf together was ten years ago before all the cancers. We've been threatening to play again for the last five years but something always happened, many times involving a hospital.
Deke is the steadiest guy I know. He's a real straight shooter if you know what I mean. He hasn't so much as picked up a club for the last ten years.
I'm so blessed that this is going to come about. There were times when we thought it might never happen.
Best ball is all about co-operation rather than competition. This is the only way that I will play if I'm not alone. Alone I have my own rules and the first rule is "enjoy yourself".
Every golfer has ten thousand horrendous shots in his bag. I've probably hit nine thousand of mine. I have the theory that every horrendous shot I now hit;
a) doesn't count
b) is one less horrendous shot from the ten thousand I started with
and c) no matter how bad it is, I can honestly say that "I've hit worse".
So I stay calm.
Tomorrow is supposed to be a beautiful day.
Grateful
Stay tuned
