I'm very proud of my daughter Mary.
One of the things I really like about her is how willing she has been to accept the music of my generation. She's been listening to Dylan since she was a child.
By the time she was sweet little sixteen she's already seen Bobby in concert three times.
And we listen to him in the car all the time. One of the CD's we've been listening to for quite awhile is Blonde on Blonde. Mary always liked Leopard Skin Pill Box hat.
Knowing what I know a bout fashion trends, I've been telling her for years that she would look great in a leopard skin pillbox hat.
Of course, she didn't know what the hell I was talking about other than it was part of a song on an album. Mary is involved in art. Her art teacher is also a big Dylan fan.
I'd been telling her for the whole semester that if we ever got a leopard skin pill box hat and she wore it to art class that her teacher would immediately say; " Hey I see you've got a brand new leopard skin pill box hat and I wonder how your head must feel under something like that"
Since I at the age of sixty had never even seen a leopard skin pill box, I sure as hell didn't think she would be seeing one much less wearing one to her art class so the whole image was just a father/daughter thing that we always share a laugh about.
Mary and I saw Dylan live again about three months ago. The night before we went to see him, I researched the playlist from his most recent concert before the one we were going to attend.
Mary was with me when I did the research.
Before we started our research, we agreed that it would be great if he opened the show with Leopard Skin Pill-Box Hat.
Sure enough, of all of the hundreds of songs in Dylan's catalogue he had opened the show before the show we were attending with Leopard Skin Pill Box Hat.
We laughed.
We weren't surprised.
We were happy.
She told me that she considered Dylan and McCartney to be friends of hers.
I asked her why she liked Dylan.
She said "He knows what's going on".
The next night at the concert Dylan opened up with Rainy Day Women and didn't play Leopard Skin Pill Box Hat.
Ya never know what Dylan's gonna do.
We weren't disappointed.
