The ‘Old Hound Dog’ was sleeping under the moon and stars in the midnight hour. All the lights in the house were out and the people were fast asleep. Out in the yard it was cold, and dark, and windy. The old hound dog lay in his kennel, and thought to himself; ‘My, I’m feeling pretty lonesome tonight, out here all on my own. The only one awake and lonely in the whole wide world. And then softly he began to howl at the white round moon above; I am so ‘Loooneeelyyyy!’ he howled. Then louder; I am so ‘LOOOONEELYYYY!’ And then he howled on into the darkness and the night at full tone; I am so ‘LOOOONEELYYYYY!’ Until the lights in the house suddenly went on and he could hear his Master’s voice shouting; ‘SHUT UP YOU OLD HOUND!’ He suddenly fell quite again and waited for the lights to go back out again, and his master to relax. And as the place grew dark once more he lay there thinking to himself; ‘I get so lonely out here all by myself.’ And then he sighed an old dog sigh to himself as he fell asleep in his nice warm blankets. The stars twinkled high above and the bright moon shone beautifully in the dark night hours.
