That moment
in the courtyard.
That was when I knew.
When the wind offered
scant rewards,
a tang of jasmine
a crescendo of cherry blossom
faith for a day.
Scents I learned by rote
as I was born
with silt and swarfega in
swollen thumbnails
soaked in gunoil and cordite.
Howled the wrong vowels at
crumbling midwives.
It was then
when I realised.
I’m not allowed these things.
The same winds took us all
but never judged.
And I’m here.
In this courtyard,
with all the dissected butterflies,
waiting to rise.

Very complex and atmospheric

Very complex and atmospheric piece, london_calling. We can all read ourselves into this. Subjectivity and all that. A bit like an ink blot. A very satisfying read.
