Witnessing the BBC reports from Mariupol on the precarious situation in Ukraine, I was worried when I heard of Will's assignment and I urged him to be very careful.
“I am a big boy and can look after myself”, he boasted but I could not stop being anxious about his safety even though I knew that he had been involved in scary moments many times.
I saw him on the television screen the other night, on a military jeep, talking to a female press correspondent and he seemed totally unruffled.
He texted me, telling me that her name is Katja and, because he doesn't know the local language, she acts as a translator.
She is young and attractive and, were I the jealous type, I might have cause to be concerned.
All I can hope is that he is not tempted to stray. I know a lot about the male psyche not to be thinking of the worst scenario.
Actually, saying this, I'm arguing against my own conviction that nowadays, though anatomically dissimilar, men and women are basically alike in terms of personality, cognitive ability and leadership.
Studies have proved that males and females, from childhood to adulthood, are more alike than different, psychologically and emotionally We both have similar urges and needs.
I can't claim that Will is my first boyfriend. I am not promiscuous but I have had a few flings since being seduced on the sandy dunes of Hammamet by Ali (but mostly by Omar Khayyam's mellifluous poetry flowing from Ali's luscious lips).
I don't expect that he remained celibate until he met me.

I have given a lot of thought and examined the pros and cons of my idea of becoming a private investigator in partnership with William Browning Esq. (nicknamed 'the Pistol' because of his surname, he says, not for other attributes suggested by his prurient colleagues).
On the plus side, we have a lot of contacts and it would be no problem to establish a clientele.
I was trained in surveillance two years ago on a course to become a secret agent under Ms. Moneypound's tutelage, so tracing villains and wrongdoers is quite feasible.
It's like riding a bicycle, I tell myself, you never forget it
Good organisation is my forte and Will would bring his technical expertise.
On the debit side, we have to consider a lot of legwork, long and anti-social working hours plus having to be physically fit at all times.
I am pleased with my analysis and about to pat myself on the back when I have a horrible thought:
“What if the imponderable happens and a stray bullet happens to incapacitate the use of his legs?”
