"As the morning dawned"
By Nathan Bednarek
- 1984 reads
Woke up this morning
looking at metal bars scabbed with rust
giving way to wind's acid gust
outside the window.
Beyond clouds grazing on blue meadows,
floating in that autistic manner
without the babel nor the clamour,
so emancipated from the earth.
Taking a wide berth
from the aches and pains wrinkling her skin,
beaten, betrayed by her own kin-
people just like me,
who hide behind bars yet think they're free.
People that through crime, war and treason
begin tapping into the reason
of why we exist yet do not live,
take yet do not give.
So I kept looking at clouds beyond
metal bars as this morning dawned
to the wind humming.

I'm surprised you got no comments for this poem. I think it's rather good and a bit penetrating. Some nice imagery too!

Hi again, Nathan....and I
Hi again, Nathan....and I indeed, echo Hilary's words.
An excellent write, atmospheric, and evocative, with particularly effective use of imagery. I.e. the personification of morning.
Admired, very much...'metal bars scabbed with rust' .
Much enjoyed.

'floating in that autistic
'floating in that autistic manner...' I would never have thought of describing them thus, but it really works. I loved this poem. You can not only write, but write REALLY well. loved it.
