Mephistopheles
Collector of souls
Destroyer
Liar
But no tempter of those who can’t be tempted
Incapable of corrupting
If Faustus hadn’t wanted it
And God, how he’d wanted it
Mephistopheles in his own private hell
Unreachable servant of Lucifer
Soother of the waves
In between sea shells
Silent beach walker.
And the beautiful sea roars and whispers and we fear and we calm in its embrace. We are children, we are ancient.
Charon
Ferryman
Of keen gaze
Irascible
Rough sea negotiator
Balancer of the books
Opener of mouths
Conjuror of coins
Unkempt sailor
Psychopomp
Attendant of the coastline.
And the beautiful sea roars and whispers and we fear and we calm in its embrace. We are children, we are ancient.
Lazarus
Unsmiling traveler
To another land
Standing still
On a burnished shore
Dragged back across the water
Criss cross journeyman
A magician’s stooge
Woken up
When he wanted to sleep
Jumping waves in his grave clothes
Skimming stones.
And the beautiful sea roars and whispers and we fear and we calm in its embrace. We are children, we are ancient.

Dr Faustus is a particular
Dr Faustus is a particular favourite of mine and you've done the old fool justice here. Great description of Lazarus as an 'unsmiling traveler.'
