A prize perch

I caught my first perch on the banks of the Trent
A handsome fish, flanks of olive-green and stripes

On predatory Friday night with my rod in the reeds
I lost my float in the weeds

It has spikes on its striking back.
If you don't hold it properly,
It will attack.
