Succinct and effective

Captures that tension between an intellectual challenge and the desire to avoid a difficult personal entanglement very well. I can sympathise with the narrator.

Very engaging ... in a quite disturbing way. I like the way you concentrate all the tensions in a disintegrating marriage into some of the mundane details, like the quick exit from the shop and the consumption of coffee and snacks. I think a lot...

I like the fact that you left this with only a partial discovery, where Eve doesn't learn all the details about her mother's affair. I'd guess it's quite true to life.

I think it takes some time - maybe a little too long - for the tension to build, but once the creature emerges it's effective, and the twist at the end works nicely.
