Kim Jonghyun was a South Korean musician and lead singer of K-pop boy-group SHINee since their debut in 2008, until his untimely death on 18 December, 2017. He was only 27 years old. Jonghyun committed suicide by carbon monoxide poisoning after suffering from severe depression for years. His death came as a shock to everyone, including his family, his loving SHINee members, and his fans, hundreds of which flocked to pay their respects one last time before his burial on 21 December. Jonghyun was, and continues to be, a huge inspiration to me. He helped me escape depression and social anxiety going into high school, and continued to push me to follow my dreams no matter the odds that may be against me. All I ever wanted to do was make him proud of who he was and what we could become. There are a lot of things I wanted to tell him in person, but now, never can. This is my tribute to him; my words unsaid. Please take the time to read this, as it comes straight from the heart. If anyone reading this is depressed or is having thoughts of suicide, please seek help. Things can and will get better, no matter how it may seem. There is always someone who cares, even if you've never met. So take these words to heart. I will always love you Jonghyun, and I promise to make you proud.
