These short stories mostly grew from the
href="http://www.20six.co.uk/Naples/weblogCategory/1uzvj6w5sf2tk">Betrayal
in Naples short story group. Fatherhood was never submitted though,
as I didn't finish it in time. We were given a theme to riff on every
two months or so.
Fatherhood
I wanted to write something about the state of 'fatherhood' and not
make it dependent on 'male-ness'. I have plenty of friends who've been
brought up by their mothers and a few friends acting as both mother and
father now. Nick, Jamie's older brother in the story, is a rough
character sketch of someone I know.
Amends
I wanted to write a piece centred around my local, so most of these
characters are well known to me. I feel it falls down a little when
Phil visit's the AA meeting as I don't have any real experience of that
situation.
Tulpa
The word Tulpa is from the Tibetan language and refers to any
entity that attains reality solely by the act of
imagination.
The plot of this story is quite weak reading it back, and full of
holes, but it is pretty much a 20six in-joke the whole way through.
It's also a lot darker than I initially set out to make it. I like to
think it's quite filmic, maybe it would work better on screen.
This story is a present for
href="http://www.20six.co.uk/snaggletooth">Snaggletooth, who is
trying to leave 20six.
Rejection
This story was difficult to write, because it was true.
