I finished my studies and started dressing up for going to the college. The practical exam was going to start at 1PM. The subject was Analog and Digital Electronics. As the name suggests it was divided in two parts. One part was Analog which consisted of fifty marks. Another was digital electronics which consisted of other fifty marks. My analog part was very weak. I only knew digital electronics.
I reached the laboratory where the practical examination for the first batch was going on. Most of the students from our batch were present there. I heard some students talking “The external is more focused on the practical knowledge not on your output of the practical.” The external is the person who judges your practical knowledge and on the basis of that he/she awards you marks. He/she is sent by the university. After hearing that I was more worried.
The students were eager for their turn. The lab attendant came and told everybody to get ready. He started calling the roll no. One by one student went inside the laboratory. Now it was my turn. My roll no was called. On getting inside, I had to go to the table where chits were kept. Chits had the name of the practical you had to perform. They were folded and kept on the table. You had to pick one of them. After taking it out you had to open it to see the name of the practical you had to perform. I opened it. It was a digital electronics practical. I was happy now as I knew how to do it. Before performing it we had to write a little description about it. If a figure was required then we had to draw it. After doing it we had to get the apparatus needed to perform the practical. I took it and started my practical.
I wrote the description about it and drew the circuit diagram. I started doing the connection according to the diagram. One hour passed still I was doing the connection. The external was still busy taking the interview of the previous batch students. When she finished with a student she would tell the student to dismantle the apparatus. I was in front of her eyes doing the practical. She finished with the previous batch. She was exhausted. She went out with our teacher for refreshment and returned after ten minutes.
It was now the turn of our batch. She sat with the other teacher at the other side of the table. Some students have finished the practical. They started going one after another to her. She was more focussed on the knowledge rather than the practical. I was still busy doing the practical. I needed more wires for connection. I went to the lab attendant and asked for more wire. “There are no wires” lab attendant replied. I was depressed after hearing this. Sadly I moved to my desk. She saw me asking for the wire. After a while a student finished doing his practical. He was going away. I asked him for his wires. He gave the wires to me.
I was done with my practical but the apparatus was not displaying desired output. If I had to do the practical again then I would have to start from the scratch. I just checked if there were loose connections but everything was correct. Now I was really sad. I thought I would be failed. At that moment a teacher came and asked me about the status of my practical exam. I told him that I am done with it. The external was still sitting at the table. For the whole batch she never got up from her place.
I was very depressed. I thought I would go next. Only a few students were left. The student stood and went out. I understood that he has finished so without waiting I went to her. I gave my practical sheet on which I had written about the practical. She checked it. She started directly asking question. Neither she asked about the result of the practical nor I told her. I was saved. Now all depended on how I gave the interview.
I gave the interview fairly well. I passed the practical exam. If she stood from her place and visited my desk I would have definitely failed in this exam. In addition to that she never asked me about the output of the practical during the interview.
I was once again saved by God otherwise I would have definitely failed in the examination.
