Could I do more

You tell me of your troubles
and I listen
with ears wide open,
and you fall into my arms
when you feel like you're
falling through life,
I'm the rung of the ladder
for you to grab hold of,
sturdy as stone.
You shed a tear
or two,
and my shoulder
offers a tissue
to dry your eyes,
and my heart
offers words
of reassurance.
You talk of your issues
and my body loses
sleep to hear them.

I know I offer you
all the support I can,
but why is it
I still feel like
I could do more?
