Physical exhaustion

My heart throbbing
against my ribs,
my lungs fighting
to take in air,
hands clenched
and arms pumping,
muscle tissue
tearing everywhere,
thigh muscles burn
and calf muscles sting
just as physical exhaustion
begins to set in,
pushing through the pain barrier
just to survive,
but sometimes this,
is the only way i know i'm alive
