Slumber Creeps

from the ABC set Poetry

Slumber creeps and you let it dissolve
Cold eyes and empty hearts,
A clouded moon illuminates your bed
Thus, glorified, counterpane transforms

You're filled with awe at the moon cast shadows
Diamond edged silhouette of cherubic cheek
Strained in falsified smile at the simple joy of a starry night

Because life is "easy" in these moments
Saline droplets are shed in heart racing empathy
For the raw pain of the solitary constellations

Pathetic conversation accompanies this lunar scene
And bass drum's beat roughly chastens minds
It all seems slow, slow, slower

Incredulity and bile-like revelation
He was too busy for a while
Are things the same in this monochrome moment
Or has he changed?

Affection seems so pointless
In comparison to that delusion you held before
Deceit comes down to a firm faith in spider web honesty

Friends may not fail. But words hurt.
And slumber creeps on the twilight of incandescence
