My First and Last Train Ride
Today is the anniversary of my first and last train ride. I remember it
well. I was ten at the time and quite mature for my age so my parents
thought I could ride the train to my grandmother's house alone. All
should have gone well except I never made it to my grandmother's house
that day.
I fell asleep on the train and missed my stop. I remember being woke up
and told that I had to get off the train. I asked for help finding my
grandmother's house but nobody knew the address. I decided to try and
walk there even though I wasn't sure where I was or which direction I
should go. I walked for several blocks until. I came to a playground.
It was a wonderful place full of children playing and having fun so I
decided to join them. It never got dark and nobody was called home for
dinner so I was not sure of the time. I had worn my watch but it said
the same time as when I got off the train. I remembering thinking that
it was not possible that time had not passed.
I left the playground after becoming bored and found myself on a street
lined with candy stores. Each store I went into offered me candy free
of charge and I soon found my pockets and hands full so I decide to sit
down on a bench and rest. After a short while an old lady came and sat
down beside me. She seemed like a nice old lady so I asked her if she
could help me find my grandmother. I showed her my grandmother's
address and she said that she knew where it was but we would have to
stop her house first. I did not think that it was a good ides to go to
a stranger's house and told her so. She explained that she had been
shopping and needed to drop her groceries off at her home before her
milk spoiled.
When we got to her house she offered me a plate of cookies and milk. We
sat for a little while, and then I asked her if she could take me to my
grandmother's house now. She said that she was too tired and needed to
rest but knew somebody who could help me find my way. I followed her
directions carefully so I wouldn't get lost. She told me to follow a
trail though the woods until I came to a large oak tree. I wandered
though the woods for some time and came across a large tree. I waited
for a while and then I heard singing. I followed the sound of the
voice. When I caught up to the voice, I found out it came from a little
man. He could not have been two feet high. I told him where I was from
and that I got lost trying to find my grandmother's house and needed to
get back home. He told me to close my eyes and repeat three times the
word home and I would find myself back at home.
I opened my eyes and I was home in my own bed. My parents say that I
was running a fever and imagined the whole thing. They said that I was
too sick to go to my grandmother's house and that I must have dreamed
it but I have a green feather I pulled from the little man's hat under
my pillow that proves otherwise.
