Unconditional

from the ABC set Poems

The tenderness once shared is remembered as my tear slides.
Your encored night-time song; down...to the...river. Was it?
It warms my ears and your old embrace cannot be forgotten.
It was not you who made the gap.
But it is there, like empty words.
I've discovered a vulnerability, but it's now I know how it was nurtured.
Through clenched disappointment and over expectation - undeserved - I found the hole in my heart.
Then, guided tracks shuffled us onto opposite roads.
The more we walked the more we distanced.
Yet no matter how far, always just an umbilical cord away.
And there's no bitter taste, I can see you through these fogged pupils.
However different we become, you'll have an open hand.
In times your hand will be my saviour.
Is this bridge over space diamond?
Can we ever be broken?

I have read your latest posting, which encouraged me to look back at your previous subs. This one stands out, most definitely.

Really enjoyed;-)
