MANCHESTER 1996.
Manchester spring 1996, this city never sleeps. United tipping the
scales against Newcastle in the hottest title chase for years. Football
in the very soul of this place, everywhere present as the nation is
enthralled.. Euro '96 is just around the corner, you can feel the
restlesness, the anticipation of things to come hanging in the air. New
lads embracing the religion of the game reborn, whilst Baddiel and
Skinner ride phoenix's flames as the medias new gods. The sounds on the
ground are the Bluetones and Dodgy, The Mondays, New Order and the
Roses keeping the faith. Dancing on as same old tunes live on, but with
added value, magnitude, connotation now resonating even more intensity.
MAD-CHESTER, you know the score! MAN-CHESTER so much to answer for! New
sounds and old coming home, their message now speaks clearer as I'm in
the city, the very place from which they spawned. The crest of
consecutive nights of forgetful joyous oblivion at the Hacienda,
Paradise Factory, Revolution 999 took me away from myself. Immersing
myself in the idyll again, the student mecca of Whitworth Park my new
home for the nexth three months.
That was Manchester, Manchester 1996.
