I Dare To Dream

Do I dare to dream?
Are these really dreams,
Or nightmares mistaken for dreams.
Seen asleep or awake,
Self inflected with pain,
Meant to relieve what's within.
A glimpse now and then of dreams full of peace.
But such dreams are fragile,
Burst by sharp lies thrust from a place deep inside.
Do I dare to dream, for the battle is vicious,
The smell thick and sweet
Camouflaged by incense to confuse and defeat.
But the smoke is now clearing,
Does my dream have a form?
Will it survive my deceit or burst like before?
Still there's a power within that I can't ignore.
Can I really control
Who I am, where I'm going, and what's really in store?
This power dares me to dream.
Could it be if I dream it, then it's mine to explore?
Yes, I dare to dream.
