CORNISH HEDGEROW
To see the tiny
Flowers grow
In bramble edges
On granite walls
Clinging and twining
Holding and climbing
Ever through the
Winter storm
In the wind and rain
The hail and snow
The jet-black sky
And blinding light
Howling and screaming
Lashing and smashing
Along the winding lanes
And open moor
Hold on tight
Can't let loose hold
Dig in deep
Through the cold
Sighing and hoping
Fighting and groping
To hold onto
It's little self
Dig down deep
With tendril roots
And grip the soil
That holds your life
Aching and breaking
Living and waiting
For the dreadful
Winters happy end.
Waiting for spring
To burgeon forth
And cover the edge
In a riot of colour
Growing and showing
Spreading and offering
It's continuing life
To the humble Bee.
