The Braces.
The silver metal glinted wickedly,
Hovering menacingly over my exposed teeth.
A glob of tooth cement willed the metal onwards,
Closer to my teeth, closer to my teeth, closer&;#8230;
A cold embrace of aluminium,
My teeth seem to shudder in disgust.
Sudden pressure, my gums are screaming,
As they're wrenched into an unfamiliar position.
The dentist smiles, trying to reassure me.
What I wouldn't give to hit him.
I run a finger over the lumpy metal,
Binding my teeth, holding them, hurting them&;#8230;
A plate of chips, a biscuit, an apple,
All inedible. It hurts too much.
Confined to scrambled egg and
Beans, sometimes a little pasta.
Hey Tin Grin, can you pick up radio signals?
Metal Mouth, Metal Mouth, Metal Mouth.
Watch out, I thought I saw a magnet comin your way!
Kids can be so cruel&;#8230;
Back in the black leather chair,
The smell of toothpaste lingers in the air.
A year later, time to say goodbye,
The cold embrace is broken.
I run a finger over my teeth,
So straight and smooth,
And free! No more pain when I eat!
No more metal, only enamel&;#8230;
